At Huriya Foundation, we passionately believe that everyone deserves the same access to opportunity in life and everyone should have the chance to lead a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.
We are committed to doing whatever we can to give back to underprivileged communities and individuals around the world and live by the mantra “Whoever saves one life saves the entire world”. We know that if enough people adopt the same selfless mindset of giving whatever they can, it creates a positive ripple effect which positively influences the future of countless individuals.
We are always looking for worthwhile causes we can support and when we found out about Swaba’s case from the Al Jalila Foundation, we knew that we had to help in any way we could.
Swaba is a three-year-old girl that was born without hearing, a devastating diagnosis for any parent to have to hear. When Swaba’s parents we first informed of this, they were heartbroken. The thought of their daughter growing up without being able to appreciate the simple sounds that most of us take for granted like the laughter of children playing in the park, birdsong in the morning or ocean waves lapping on the shore left them with sadness and despair.
However, this despair gave way to hope when they learned about a potentially life changing medical procedure that could give Swaba her hearing back. They were told that a cochlear implant, a small surgically implanted device could restore Swaba’s hearing and give her the chance of leading a normal life, but it was imperative to act quickly since early intervention when treating young children dramatically improves speech and hearing outcomes
Unfortunately, for many families, this kind of treatment is out of reach as it is an expensive procedure that requires extensive speech therapy and rehabilitation. We didn’t want Swaba to miss the opportunity to receive this life changing treatment, so we stepped in to offer our support.
We donated AED 72,418 to the Al Jalila Foundation to cover the cost of the cochlear implant surgery and allow Swaba to undergo speech therapy and rehabilitation.
Since receiving the treatment, Swaba’s life has been transformed. With restored hearing, the world has opened up for her. She has become much more inquisitive, and she is even mimicking sounds – she can already say ‘mama’ and ‘baba’ and her speech is improving more and more all the time.
Needless to say, her parents are overjoyed with the difference the surgery has made to their daughter and they are now filled with renewed hope for Swaba’s future. There is of course a long road to recovery ahead, but for the first time in this young girl’s life her future looks bright and filled with hope. Click here to watch Swaba’s story.
At Huriya Foundation, we are always striving to make a difference in society and transform people’s lives for the better. Swaba’s story is inspirational and filled with determination and triumph over adversity, so it makes us incredibly proud to have been able to support Swaba and her family and to have given them the chance of a better life.
We will continue to work with Al Jalila Foundation and other likeminded charitable organisations to be able to continue making an important difference in people’s lives and making the world a fairer, more equitable place.
